To be able to get 99fps in let's say 5+ smokes. Let's not make a CPU a factor by assuming the CPU is a Conroe ~3GHz. I know CS 1.6 is 80% CPU dependant or whatever so I'm thinking a 7300GT would be ok or overkill? How about X1300? Maybe even the 6200.

anyone of those would work. I got 50 fps with onboard ati express graphics with a 1.8 athlon and gthat was on source so I am sure 1.6 would be way way faster

resolution plays a role though

in 5 smokes...i would definately get something better

With my 6800 in 1.6 in 5 smokes i get 50fps (4xAA 16xAF)

are you joking me?

you can get a radeon 9x series and be way more than fine.

My voodoo 3 played cs fine... @ 100FPS.

i remember when i had my x800 xl 5 smokes or so at 1600x1200 it shot down to like 50 frames.

For PCI-Express, pick up a GeForce 7900GS. If you can afford it for $200, why not? A 7300GT would be fine also.

I have a 6600gt in my shuttle... 100fps pegged in $16000 worth of smoke. That's at 800x600 0xAA. You definitely don't need a 3.0ghz Conroe though, that's for sure. A $30 Celeron D will suffice.

umm yea you dont need much for 1.6 even with smokes. is there really going to be many times where people will use that much smoke to be bothersome to you?

Just get yourself a bottom of the barrel nvidia card. 6600 or something that's under $80

CS 1.6 doesnt require much in the way of a good video card. You can get the cheapest 6200LE and be perfectly fine.

I used to play CS on my Matrox G400 MAX, and I got 60fps at 800x600. But the game started to slow down a bit once they upgraded to the higher-res textures (don't remember when that happened).

I'm sure anything GeForce or beefier will satify your requirements. You'll probably want 64MB if you can swing it. Recent onboard chips from Intel, Nvidia or ATI would work.

I'm talking about CS 111111111.........666666666666666 and NOT Source by the way :) . With my XP2400+ and geforce 2 ultra I can barely get 99fps staring at a wall and at spawn it's 80-99fps depending on how many models. I was thinking Intel E6300 and 7300GT.

I've been playing 1.6 on my laptop at 1200x800 and my fps always stays between 71 and 72. I'm running a TurionX2 @ 1.6 ghz, 1 gig of RAM and the onboard Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics chipset sharing 128 MB of main memory.

Long story short, even the 7300 is overkill for 1.6.

Some of these new onboard video cards are overkill for 1.6....come on that game is old now. Just buy some cheap budget card and call it good. No need for a 7300.

max_fps 99 .... in console.

How would a X1300 or 6200 compare with my geforce 2 ultra? :p (yeh - serious question). I was thinking of getting X1300 or 6200 as CS 1.6 would be the only game ever played on the computer. The cards can also be found in passive versions, which is the main priority.

Heh...like you really need 99fps to get a smooth feeling game. In that old school graphics type 30-40fps would be fine. Newer games seem to need 60+to have a non rigid feel to them.

Don't reply if you don't know what you're talking about please. In CS 1.6 because of the old engine it feels unsmooth even with 80fps. You need 99fps for best bullet registration and feel.

and i used to play that game on a TNT2 800x600 60fps max.

tried playing 1.6 after months of sourceyness. it was like playing with razor blades.

my x1900xt kills 1.6 but still at 1024x768 with AA/AF on auto i still get fps from 60-100 in the middle of 10 smokes ya but after like 4 sec it goes away and i get 100fps from a distance.

My older PC a 1.5ghz P4 w/ Radeon 9600xt 256 at 800x600 would play 1.6 but it wouldnt play 100fps constant :(.

any card from Nvidia 6xxx + card or Ati X series ones would do just fine you just got to be aware that some fps drop will occur only for a very small amount of time.

A $100 x1600pro would be fine as my friends laptop can run source at 30fps with an x1600 mobile :D so anything better than an x1600 would be perfect :D -- my opinion

I think I'll go for the 6200 class in the 8th generation of nvidia cards. So 8200? :p Or it might stay 7100GS in the 8th generation.

AA kills your fps with smokes

20-30 fps is fine for me, i don't see why everbody complains, but thats probaly because i've never felt getting anything over 40 fps. After you get 60 FPS, you can't go back probaly lol ;)

You can't be serious. Anything below 60fps in CS 1.6 is like a slideshow. Please try CS 1.6 on a good computer and you'll see  .

Agreed. If your fps drops down below 60 in 1.6 you are absolutely screwed.

Yeah, the engine is so bad that fps actually effects bullet registration and recoil (both related of course). The best player with 30fps won't stand a chance against an adept player with constant 99fps. It's hard to explain, but basically you NEED 99fps.
