Hey, quick verification,

My friend and I have simple cheap miniDV camcorders.. Not HD or anything.. you know, the $200ish variety.. I have a Samsung SC-D353.. I think she has a JVC one..

If she uses her miniDV camcorder to record video on a tape.. Then physically mails me t he miniDV tape, I should be able to play it back on my miniDV camcorder right?

Basically, I'm trying to put together some quick video footage, and since she is across the USA and not familiar with transferring video from her camcorder to her computer, I was thinking it would be easier for her just to record her short bit, and just mail me over the miniDV.. which I would pop in my camera and transfer over to my computer to stitch it all together.

If both cameras use the same tapes, then I see no reason why your camera won't play hers.

Hmm, doing a little more reading, it seems that the DV standard describes both tape and codec standard, so I guess we should be good to go.

Basically, I was worried that there would be some codec format incompatibility.. But it sounds like we should be fine...

You'll be fine. I would suggest that you both use the same brand of tape in your camcorders, to avoid any long-term issues with build-up inside the VTR mechanisms
