MiniDP vs DP - is there a difference?

Hello,

I recently purchased a 3440 x 1440 display and am curious if it would be best to connect this display to my video card via mini Display Port or a normal Display Port cable. I know HDMI would lower the overall Hz to 50 (from 60). Does it matter which display port I use?
