Hey guys so I've decided that since I'm not gaming anymore I don't need my sugo sg01 anymore. It's also getting pretty annoying lugging it from hawaii to miami for college so I'm planning on downgrading to a mini itx. I'm looking to make it console sized, give or take, so I can travel with it in my backpack. Noise isn't really an issue. i'm looking for it to be able to play 1080p movies. I have a copy of windows 7 home. and theres a tigerdirect nearby. I'll be living in south florida for the next year or so. Also I'd like to keep it under $350-400 considering I'll already have a cpu, hdd, heatsink, and ram.

One quick question before i post my projected parts. I'm planning on reusing my RAM and CPU and having a simpl gpu so I can web browse and watch movies in hi def. i was wondering what kind of a psu I was going to need, in my sg01 i was running the E8400, 4gb of ram, and ati 4870 with no problems on my 600w psu. would a stock ~200W mini itx psu be able to run the same ram, cpu and a simpler gpu or would i need to upgrade it.

is that too much? can i get something even simpler that will still play hi def movies and such?

Thanks for looking. I really just want to be able to web surf and watch movies. No gaming or video editing, etc. If anything seems overkill here please let me know and I will look for other parts. Thanks in advance!

How do you typically watch your movies? Bluray disc, digital file (i.e. MKVs), streaming, all of the above?

If you're not planning on doing any majorly intensive stuff, you can get away with on-chip graphics processors. I've got both a Zacate system and a i3-530 system that use their on-chip graphics processors for playing 1080p (from MKVs, plus HD streaming on the i3-530). Honestly, I think the i3-530 does a better job of it, but I really can't fault the Zacate since the power usage is so much lower than the i3 system. Those chips/mobos cost a bit more, but then you won't have to buy a discrete graphics card.;) A SFX psu of 150w would be more than enough for either of those systems.
 
Are you going to be connecting to a TV?
Could use a motherboard with HDMI like this Zotac and skip getting the graphics card. Could also skip it if you go the Zacate or i3 onboard graphics route too. If you plan on the graphics card, you could probably get a cheaper one, like this sapphire

200W should be fine to power that system.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. Yeah so i plan on using this for: netflix(streaming and discs), hulu, and other digital movie sources. I'll be hooking it up to a TV. I guess right now I'm planning on getting that zotac Mobo. it seems like a good choice since its fairly cheap and i wont have to get a gpu. One question though is the case I'm looking at has a 150W PSU. Would that still be ok for the zotac with no gpu?

With no GPU, 150W should be just fine (if the PSU is not overrated). Netflix uses Silverlight and Hulu uses Flash. Your Core 2 Duo should be able to run those fine purely on the CPU.
