Mini-ITX GTX 960 models released

So it's launch day for the GTX 960, and we have a few small models on offer:

A new entry! I like the design of their short GTX 750 ti, and I'm liking this one too. It's got a standard 6-pin. I'm hoping that this one won't exhaust loads of hot air into the case; looking at the fin orientation hopefully air is directed towards the back.

Pretty much the same as the 970 model, except with two fewer DP ports.

Looks very similar to the 970 version. Should be quite good, if reports on the 970 version tell us anything.

Additionally Zotac has come out with a short-ish 960, and Asus' Strix 960 has a short PCB but an over-extending cooler.

The release of the GTX 960 was controversial, but I'm happy to see some more short GPU options.

Thoughts?
 
This is nice, and not at all unexpected. I think everything below the 970 should and will be available as a short version.

Good to see that Gigabyte did away with the stupid closed back panel, that was such a bad idea.

I'm wondering whether EVGA will release a mITX 970, too?
 
Would a low profile version be possible? Not sure what determines that, but the transistor count is about 60% more than a GTX 750 ti. Power consumption is only about 35 watts more though. This still means that the card can't be powered by the PCI-E slot alone.

Newegg has it for $200+shipping. They don't have good straight-on pictures, but based on the Myspace angle pics, looks as if this also uses a "tall" PCB.

Doubt it can happen. Generally LP versions stay within the available power of the PCIe slot, which is 75W. The GTX 750 Ti is 60W TDP. The GTX 960 is double that at 120W. GTX 970 is 145W and 980 is 165W.

Low profile, probably, but not with mITX length. Also the PEG power connector would have to be placed in the front, not on the side to actually work with most cases that require low profile cards.

If anything, the 950 will get a low profile version, I don't see it happening for the 960. Interesting fact about the transistor count, though, got any sources on that?
 
Yeah I doubt we'll see low-pro Nvidia until 950/ti. The 900 series is shaping up to be remarkably like the 600 series.

Won't the 950 likely just be a rebranded 750? Do they have any GM2xx chips left to launch?

I've heard that it will be the same architecture, just manufactured in 20nm instead of 28nm. The pricing is going to be interesting, too. With the 960 at 200 bucks, the 750ti at 150, and the 750 at 100, where will they position the 950?

Well they're going to discontinue those models when the 950 comes out, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it at a similar price to the 750 / ti.
 
I'm happy for more mITX GPUs. There needs to be enough choices of them so that SFF case designers aren't forced to accommodate giant GPUs.
 
i really like many of the Galax models recently, but i can't find them for sale anywhere in America. They are not listed on Amazon or Newegg at all. Tried a google search and it also came up blank for stores in america.
 
Yeah their official store is the way to go. If you're outside of the US, then you'll have to find a reseller though - meant I couldn't find their short 970 for sale.
 
Maybe we'll even get a single-slot version - I think there are those out there who would benefit from a normal sized, but thin performance card.
 
That would be great but probably quite unlikely. Neither the 660 nor the 760 had single slot versions (AFAIK), and 750 tis are scarce. It seems as though the market for them isn't valued enough. And indeed, the majority of cases out there are either dual slot or have no slots.
 
I was looking into getting one of these for my wife, but man these are expensive! Guess she'll run the r9-270x mini for a little while longer.
 
If they managed to get some half height cards, these cards would be pretty crazy inside of the L3 that was just recently announced and probably the new contender for performance:size ratio
