The MS-9803 / (Fuzzy GM965). I am planning on building the smallest gamebox possible. I assume mini-itx is as small as I can go keeping a pcie16 slot (obvioulsy needed for a gamebox).
So my question is, does anyone know if there are any plans from anyone for a mini-itx sli board (yea, its asking alot I know..) or a better single pcie mini-itx board? I prefer core 2 duo based, at least for now.
If no, anyone know where I can get the MS-9803 (or will be able to get it).

I'm not aware of any mini-itx boards with a pcie 16 slot. Newegg has a socket 754 board but you're limited to 6150 graphics

I have heard of some core duo boards but they are not readily available nor do they have a pcie16 slot. If anyone can prove me wrong please do so :)

Mini-itx is too costly and you're better off sticking with micro atx.
 
I have the evga matx nf4 board...too big (its serving as an HTPC in a Sugo case atm)
Using the evga 680i board for games now in a lain-li case..its nice but far to large in case of need to transport it any place.
I want a fully capable game machine I can almost stick in my pocket (yea exaggeration but you get the idea).

You wouldn't want a via processor for a gaming box anyways. But if you could get a c2d based itx board with a pciex16 slot no doubt I'd be up for it. The question is is how practical would that be. With a power hungry desktop based processor as well as a graphics card fit for a gamer, you'd need a serious power supply, which most itx cases don't have. As well as the heat generated by the combination of the proc and gfx card and where you're going to be able to dissipate the heat. So all in all it's not really that practical.
 
I wouldn't be using an itx case. I'd end up making a custom case for it taking into account the cooling and a full size PSU (partial to Silverstone and Seasonic power supplies atm). Price really isn't an issue,kind of used to paying much too much to build new machines <hooray for 6mth cycles anyone?>, plus it'd be unique :)
Oh I know a via proc wouldn't cut it for anything (other then HTPC maybe) which is why I want c2d. If I ever find one of the 965 boards in time for it to be worth building it I'll let you know where, how and how much when all is said and done.

The Portwell and Ipox not only look the same but they are actually the same company with Portwell in the States and Ipox in Asia. This was confirmed today during my conversation with a representative at Portwell. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on a review sample to play around with:)

I emailed Portwell about thier board and they replied that it'd be available in retail channels Q2 2007. They said they'd get back to me with info on where to get one when it's out.
Although I've never heard of Portwell or Ipox, I assume they are quality boards seeing as they are being sold as integrated solutions?
Ah well, we'll see in a few weeks if I can't get one. Let us know if you do in fact get a review sample please and how it goes :)

I'd figure out a case that has the cpu heatsink set right below the psu fan, like the sugo setup (http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-355-4.htm) and then just have a nice side vent for your video card (don't forget to make the case wide enough for a dual-slot cooler!)

On the topic of Mini-ITX boards with PCI-E 16x, I too were looking for one Mini-ITX board for a system project I got going on here capable of driving the latest Graphics Cards from AMD/ATI & Nvidia. Then I came across Portwell WADE 8156 / IPOX ADE-6040 Mini-ITX Boards:

Suffice to say, these are some of the top power horse Mini-ITX boards around! Price/Feature/Performance there is nothing else to compare. I have been in contact with both companies (I donno where Gowking got the impression that Portwell = IPOX, but I had the impression that they are two competing TW companies in the ISBC sector... and I got both IPOX/Portwell contacts to state otherwise...), and sample prices for each are (single unit - plus S&H):

* WADE-8156 - 235USD
* ADE-6040 - 195USD

Although they are still on the steep end on the price spectrum, IMHO what you get is the form factor's space saving and very minimalistic board layout. It would've been alot better without those Serial/IGD but since it's coming from the industrial sector market, it's understandable why they would include such features.

My project consist of one of these plus one of the top-of-the-range Video Cards, either a 7950GX2 or an 8800 GTX Ultra. I am still contemplating... worklog to follow for sure :cool:
