Since i bought this new stuff and set it up succesfully (i thought) i've been having major lag-spikes
in both large 3D games, small web-based arcadegames and latest with normal web-browsing....
Each minute approx. i get 10 secs of 85-90 percent lag on both cores...

I tried:
Reinstalling drivers (graphics, sound, MoBo, Bios....etc..)
Reinstalling windows
Switching GFX-cards
Testing RAM
Stress-testing CPU
Checking core temp. and voltage
Switched slot for the sound card
Upsizing pagefile
Replacing router, bypassing router, disconneting netcard...etc... (edited)

No specific files comes to show in task manager and no significant changes in available RAM

The "funny" thing about this, is that the spikes only occur, when in window. So i can have a game
minmized and not experience the problem and the same goes for Explorer...
VERY strange to me, but maybe you wizars can help me....

Thanks in advance :)

try disabling network card for a moment, for some reaon that popped into my head at first. Someone else Chime In!

Oops forgot to say that. I already did everything i could imagine regarding network. I bought new router, tried connecting directly to the cable modem instead of going thru the router, tried disconneting netcard, and even removed netcard from bios.... Nothing!

**Edited OP to state networkattempts**

Bring this computer to a friends house and test. If it happens there, it isn't network related, especially if his/her machine does not have the issue. Also check to see if a single player 3D game causes the same style of spike.

Run your compy with the bare minimum: Onboard graphics, onboard sound, onboard nic. See what happens. See if you can grab a temp monitoring tool that will kick out to a log file. Run a game or two and see if your GPU/CPU/Chipset spike in terms of heat.

Hi Shambler and thanks for advice..
I can try bringing my new build to my friends house and hooking it up there, but my network didnt cause ANY problems up until i got the new compy.
As for spike in games, i found out that an older game like AoE2 does not lagspike.

I already checked temp., but the problem occurs even before anything get a chance to get heated up..

About all I got left is a complete re-seat or swap of your components.
Reseat, reapply paste to CPU/HSF. Reseat vid card, any other cards. Snag another HDD, or new HDD and test with OS + games on that drive only.

Download F@H, run 2 SMP clients and see if that makes it spike. If not, you have a dedicated folder. Buy another gaming PC, swap the vid card over :)
Sorry, that wasn't very helpful was it :(

did you disable on-board sound and on-board RAID (if not using). Try that ... and uhh hmm...

Maybe USB? Setup a scenario where u can watch the LAG without your playing the game, etc
Unplug all your USB stuff, inc, mouse, etc. If anything, you could try disabling the USB Root Hubs in Control Panel also.

Oh, one more thing to unplug for the fun of it, IDE CD ROM.

Dunno, diggin for an answer here... good luck

I had exactly the same thing when trying to play Colin McRae Dirt, at times there is incredible lag.
I found 2 things that affected it and fixing them both resolved the problem.

1) If the game tries to connect to the internet, a dialogue may appear from your firewall asking if you want to allow the connection. This caused "incredible" lag for me!
To see if this is happening, run the game and ALT TAB back to Windows.
Allow or deny the connection as you choose or make your own rule in the firewall config.

2) My AntiVirus seems to take it upon itself to go nuts sometimes while playing Dirt and occupies 50% CPU. It only happens sometimes, odd.
I added the game to the AV exclusions but it made no difference so I now disconnect from the internet and disable my AV when playing Dirt.

It is now super smooth :)
A bit of hassle but worth it.

@ MrkXCel
Hmm maybe ill give the USB-thingie a try...cause i've bee having problems with USB & PS2 connection to my keyboard also....Guess that tells me that somethng is VERY wrong with the MoBo..
And yes tried disabling onboard stuff

@Nenu
Thanks but its nono of the 2. I ran BF2 windowed to keep an eye on processes starting the lag, and nothing from either firewall or antivirus. Disabled both before running the game

Hi all and thanks for all your inputs,
I resolved the issue by replacing the MoBo and now its all good :)
