min hdd size to dual boot

Basically, how small of a hdd can I use to dual boot win98se and xp? doesnt the partition alone take up like 5gigs? Im talking of a "typical" install.

5 gigs would be plenty for win98se, but go between 7 and 10 for winxp, I just have 5 for xp and am finding I could use a lot more.

no, I mean, say I have a 10 gig hardrive. I split it in two for two separate partitions..........doesnt the act of partitioning it use up a few gigs of space?(leaving a 3 gig and a 4 gig)
