I am looking at getting a LGA 775 processor for my home theater PC and want to make sure I get something good enough to where I know im not going to run into any troubles down the road, but am trying to spend as little as possible.
It will have to be able to play the toughest 1080p content while possibly recording two shows at once. I plan on using Vista Media Center with 1GB of ram.
Checking prices at Newegg the cheapest dual core is E1200 for only 59.00.
It don't make much sense to not go a tier above to the E2160 for a few dollars more. But I keep doing that until I eventually reach E2200 for 94.00. After that the price jumps to 125.00 for only a bump in L2 Cache.
For playing media I don't see the L2 cache making much difference, but is 2.2Ghz going to be fast enough so I know im not going to be running into any problems with what my HTPC will be able to handle in the future?
