Hey guys....

I've been OC'ing since celeron 400's, but I[m not up to date with what's going on with chips and chisets and gfx cards...

I'm looking to upgrade my opty165@3ghz, with 7900GT on DFI lanpary NF4 mobo (mid-high end system 2 years ago). I run custom watercooling (cpu+gfx)

Should I go and buy now, or is it advisable to wait another month or two ? (or three... i.e. is there anything super exciting 'just around the corner') ?

I'm thinking of Intel c2d 3ghz, + 9800GT... now the mobo... do i want ddr3 ? which mobo ? I always had best OC'ing mobos (abit bh6-bx6, iwill KK266-kt133a, then asus nforce2 mobo then this DFI nforce4), so I'm looking for most stable best ocing mobo i can get... I dont care about onboard sound or SLI... I had a look around those forums, people keep saying DFI P35 series mobo ? but that's ddr2 only i think ?

Lets see. 3 months makes July. Yup, wait 3 months. There's a rumour going round that Nvidia is releasing a 9900 series in July.

I agree.. you can wait or pickup a Q6600 right now for about 200$. You can run that 7900 and wait for whats next in the video card market. Also the X48 DFI boards are out as far as I know. I have a Quad with a DFI P35 DK for my other setup and I love it. As of now I dont think think the current boards with DDR3 are showing leaps in performance over the current DDR2 boards. DDR2 prices are crazy low at the moment. Your current setup sounds exactly like my old setup I upgraded from.

what's your budget? The gigabyte p35-d3sl and the abit ip35-e are solid performers for their price.

I just built someone a machine with the IP35-E. Runs solid after you get it going. It is very picky about RAM though. I had a couple of OCZ Platinum DDR2 6400 modules. It will not run them, and they are known good modules. Had to run to Circuit City and buy a pair of Kingstons to get it going.
