Microsoft has released the new Zune 1.3 patch for all 12 people that own one. The update fixes a music “skipping” issue and a few other minor things.

The software maker had originally hoped to have the update by midmonth, but the patch took slightly longer than it had hoped to develop and test. In addition to addressing the song-skipping issue, the Zune 1.3 software update aims to offer quicker syncing and improve a situation where the Zune's battery could drain more quickly after using the FM tuner.

there are more then 12 people. You forgot my wife, so that makes 13 of us :D

I wanted one pretty bad when I first saw them and, once they get the thing up to its full potential, I'll get one. There is just no compelling reason to switch away from the iPods I own now. A price cut of $49 would go a looooong way towards making me a believer.

As Steve said, there's just no reason to switch from an Ipod. If you have an Ipod, it works, and you like it... there's 0 reason to switch to a Zune, unless you want subscription based music from Zune (aka Urge), and in all honesty, there are better Plays-For-Sure (Urge compatible) devices out there.

That being said, I have a Zune, and I like it. But I also didn't have an Ipod before hand.

I had 2 iPods and like the Zune a lot better then I ever did the iPods since both died within 6 months from hardware failure

I have a Zune(bows head) and I really like it(I never had an iPod, only a few "lower" end MP3 players). My issues are with skipping, but since I don't "buy" music online, it's only from the ripped CDs I own, hope this fixes that issue. Plus, it likes to reboot itself after a bit. Sometimes after several hours of playing, sometimes 3-4 times in a row(really seems to hate Alice in Chains). Maybe that got fixed too ^_^

I have a 60Gb iPod 5th Gen and a Zune 30Gb White. I don't know, but I've gotten so used to the extras included with the iPod that my Zune is sitting in its box collecting dust. Never thought being able to sync my contacts and calendar events would come in handy. Or, setting an alarm to go off for an upcoming appointment when I am not near my PC.

Also, anyone notice that their Zune seems to go through battery pretty darn quick when not in use? I had mine sitting on my desk for a little over a week, and once I powered it on it immediately shut off (low battery). When I left it, the battery had a full charge. Hopefully the new 1.3 firmware fixes this.

You can disable Wi-Fi to increase battery life. Just turn it on when you need it, and leave it off when you don't, makes a huge difference in terms of battery life.

Anyone gotten a BSOD from this update? I was adding tunes to my Zune this morning, I had just gotten done ripping my disks to the HDD and was just starting to add them to my Zune, when my computer did the ol' BSOD(mind you, ALL I was doing was adding tunes to my Zune, no gaming, not even my internet browser was open), rebooted and now my computer has NO idea what I have connected to it, and my Zune keeps saying it is recharging the batteries(even though it's been unplugged for over 2 hours now. I have tested this on 3 different computers now, all do the same thing. Windows has no clue what I have connected to it.

K, fixed it. Hold the <- button and the top of the control pad for a few seconds resets the player without erasing anything on it.

I am really on the verge of getting a Zune. Sound quality on this little sucker is awesome and just so damn tempting.
