InfoWorld says that Microsoft is close to announcing a global initiative to bring computers, technology and educational resources to emerging countries. The plan calls for extremely low-cost software, job training, education and PCs to start.

The initiative, an expansion of what Microsoft calls its "Unlimited Potential" strategy to promote technology skills and bring computers to emerging markets, includes several new programs and partnerships to offer low-cost software, education, job training and PCs, said Orlando Ayala, senior vice president of Microsoft's Emerging Segments Market Development Group.

I wish they'd just lower their prices overall... gee wiz.. $800 just for windows and Office is a little reduculous.

I hear this time and time again. You know, you don't HAVE to buy Vista Ultimate and Office Premium super hummer edition.

Since, everyone claims there's so much opensource, freeware out there, why not get a vista home basic ($95) + thrown on VLC & Foobar for your video and mp3 playback, firefox for your browser, (although even home basic has IE), and for your office suite, use Office 2007 home & student ($130)

This $3 bundle isn't the same as your $800 package. Yes.. $225 versus $3 is a big step different, but it's also got "XP Starter" and that office is barely a step above WORKS.

My question is when will MS and other companies will start focusing on where they got thier starts from!

Microsoft look to the US. Boost our education system.

Companies and our government need to start investing in America again. Our education system in a lot of the US isn't doing so hot. We are nolonger at the top. In this study, we are placed 18 out 24 nations studied. My parents moved to Minnesota because that was one of the best places in the early 1990s for education in America, and now even Minnesota is slipping.:(
