I notice in the add/remove programs box I've got both Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 and Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 (x64). I don't know much about what that is, other than I need it to run some programs. Do I need to have BOTH versions installed? Can I get rid of 1.1 since I have 2.0?

You can, but if you have a program that was designed for the 1.1, it may have small issues. Or refuse to run at all. Unless you are short on disk space, no real reason to remove it. All of our machines have 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5. If an application targets a specific version, it will expect to find it.

Some apps do require the certain version (1, 2, 3, etc.). Annoying yes...cause you have to have them all installed if you run applications that need different versions, but it is just the way it works.
