The folks at ifixit have done a nice write-up on the disassembly of a Kinect. Two cameras, an IR projector, accelerometer and four microphones are at the core of the machine. The good news is that there is no soldering required and the device is highly modular, so replacing components shouldn’t be too difficult. Thanks to Stoly and Domo for the linkage.
 
Wow, theres alot to it. I see a motor, does this spin to keep the action in best view?
 
not taking any chances with overheating perhaps
