Microsoft has announced a new milestone for Edge: the browser now has 330 million active devices, up from 150 million active devices in April. There are over 500 million active Windows 10 devices, meaning that about 60 percent of active Windows 10 devices are also active Edge devices. For the sake of comparison, Google says Chrome has over 1 billion users, and Mozilla claims that Firefox is used by “half a billion people around the world.”

“A lot of improvements and a lot of new features doesn’t really mean anything if no one’s using it,” Morris said. “I’m really thrilled to announced today that, earlier this month, Microsoft Edge passed over 330 million active devices worldwide. This number has more than doubled since the Edge summit last year. So we’re pretty humbled by this number because they’re actual users who are browsing the web through our browser, and more importantly, what they’re browsing through Edge is the sites and apps that you build.”

Active devices? The article doesn't state the metric for "Active".

Daily? Weekly? Once by mistake? Once to download Firefox / Chrome?

Active devices... not default browser. Word choice here is intentional.

Sorry guys, I actually used Edge once (to download Firefox!). It hasn't been used since though.

This is exactly how they got their numbers. I use it too while setting up new machines at work, and typically don't get to downloading chrome until I have profiles set up on our domain.

    Fake stats

Edge still doesn't work right with most other products. Every time it accidentally loads I cringe!

i use edge/chrome/opera and firefox on rare occasions. Edge works fine for me for general browsing and various web tools except in rare cases which is pretty much the same thing i get from the other browsers. except safari.. that had all kinds of issues with sites and tools on windows, doesn't seem to have the nearly the same level of issues on Mac though. Edge needs to have its tool sets and options filled out and implemented better as they are still very weak compared to any other mature browsers. Edge simply is not a mature product yet. Time will tell if it gets there.

I tried opening a PDF the other day and was trying to input some data into the fields provided. For the life of my I couldn't get anything to work. Puzzling. Then I realized Edge was the default program for PDF's and not my third party app. Sneaky sneaky!

300 million people use* Edge, Windows 10 sales are through the roof, and 99.9% of users are happy* with telemetry! Everything is fine!

edge hasn't even worked since the creators update on my work laptop or home PC, not that i use it. MS solution is reloading windows... ya no thanks ill just use Chrome like the rest of the world.

There was a temporary DNS error. Try refreshing the page.

    Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

With Edge, Microsoft managed to pull of the impossible feat of creating a browser worse than Internet Explorer.

I liked IE. I used it right up until Windows 10. I use Chrome now. I hate that MS is the only one collecting my data, I want to spread it out.

Not entirely sure what the hell that means, but I wonder how many were opened once, to download FireFox or Chrome and never used again and MS counts it as active.

As others have said it's the no.1 Browser for downloading Chrome and Firefox.

Although I just have a Ninite Installer file now that pulls all that stuff onto the machine in one go so really don't need Edge any more.

I opened a PDF of a car service manual in Edge recently. That likely would contribute to the "active devices" metric. Once I realized that I was viewing the PDF in Edge, I downloaded Adobe Acrobat. Haven't gotten around to installing it yet, though.

Have to say edge is fast as they say. I figured out why though no security. I seen edge infected with in 2 sec on one page. Chrome and firefox blocked it. Edge said come on in.

I know at least two or three times a week I'll accidentally open it trying to click on another taskbar button. So -1 that's actually active.

Every time this gets posted I say the same thing. I've always been a diehard IE user since the beginning. It always worked for the end user just fine. It was the developers who always complained because they needed to code their sites to support IE. That is just not the case anymore. Support for IE is dying off rapidly, and it's getting harder and harder to use because sites are just flat out not working in it anymore. Edge has been consistently bad for me since day 1. It has always crashed on several different pages, so much to the point that I went out of my way to go back to IE. But now IE must be getting pushed out of the market and gaining the "features" of Edge, because it's becoming a poor experience. For basically the first time in 15 years I'm more or less forced into the arms of Firefox, because if I want to load a page it's about the only choice.

I completely understand the active part. Microsoft is still trying to sneak Edge onto your pc left and right. It's the default for anything to do with Cortana, it's the default for PDFs, JPGs, etc etc. They can get someone to load that pile simply by going through some action on the desktop which causes the browser to open in Edge. Half of the time you'll just have to copy / paste the content and put it into a browser that actually works, and I completely get annoyed any time I see it open. It's really been that bad of an experience for me that I'll go out of my way to not use it.

Edge > Chrome by a long shot.

Better battery life on laptop, faster, smoother. Don't care for extra extensions that Chrome offers.

I also moved from Google Drive to OneDrive. Far better experience combined with the Groove Music syncing capabilities. Google Music web manager is big mess.
