• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

This Associate Press story is saying that Microsoft Corp. has started linking users' search habits with other personal information in an attempt to deliver more “personal” ads.

With the use of small data files known as cookies, Microsoft can link information users provide when they sign up for Hotmail e-mail and other services with data on what they view and search for on various Microsoft sites, such as those for maps, Web journals and finance.

I'd like to see them try to fit a targeted banner ad into my browser:

In many countries it's illegal to have a person register like that.

Please tell me you just did that for a laugh... There's no way you've added all those toolbars, and yet your Links are the original ones from when you installed Windows...

On topic:
It's not like I'm completely surprised by this.
(a) It's Microsoft.
(b) It's a logical use for the technology.

Is there anything wrong with it?
Not really. It's not illegal, immoral, or unethical. It's just an unwelcome step for those of us who've been spoiled by a relatively "un-networked" internet- a bunch of independent, unorganized web sites floating around unaware and independent of one another.

And it's another reason I don't use MS any more than I have to.

Is it just me or what? I am hard pressed to remember a time when a banner ad or google ad directly resulted in a sale from me?

Banner Ads are annoying. The only time I click on one is by mistake and I pull out an eyelash everytime for punshiment for clicking to fast. :p

Advertising money should be put into offering multimedia services like streaming video. I feel way more influenced from a commercial before a video I want to watch that a blinking banner or half ass flash game/advertisment that asks me to kick a field goal and win a PS3.
