Microphone

I just put together a new computer and I started playing DOD, and I tried to use my microphone. Everyone told me it was really scratchy and fizzing. I tested it and I found out it was. Without any sound what so ever is would fiz and crack. Do you think the problem is with the microphone or the something else?
