Microphone Repair

I have this pair of headphones with a microphone on the side. Well, instead of wrapping the chord(cord?) around the back of my desk, I just ran it directly from the back of my computer to my chair so I could walk around my room without taking them off. The only problem with this is, I tend to set my chair down on the chord(cord) sometimes. Well, I did just that and it appears that I partially severed part of the wire. The wire is comprised of a bunch of thin copper-looking wires wrapped together. Is there any way to repair the chord(cord) without having to go in and match up each individual copper-looking wire?

PS: The microphone has stopped working, but the headphones function fine.

i would say no and recommend that you just buy a new pair of headphones. Were these particularly expensive?

....not really.

But - it's not that hard, it just takes a little time. You can carefully cut it apart and try to find the broken wire(s). Cut a inch or so of the insulation off each end, then strip the wires back and match them up. Solder / heat shrink would work fine for this application.

Or....just buy new ones. Up to you.

Good luck - B.B.S.

No, not too expensive, I guess. I'll just get some new ones. Thanks for the advice.

Altec Lansing AHS-502 ????????

Next question ... how long have you had them?
They do have a one year warrantee and if you have not had them for a year you can contact Altec Lansing and get a replacement.
Easy huh? :)

Less than a year, actually. Do you know of any nice pairs of earcup headphones with mics on them? These are the only ones I could find, and they kind of make my ears ache if I wear them for too long.
