My microphone is attached to the top of my monitor. And it has a pink plug, so i put it into the pink port into the back of my motherboard. And it doesn't work.

I recently built a new computer, but I had a old one with the mic setup and it worked just fine. The mic worked when I first put it into my new setup but now it doesnt.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?
 
first... what kind of sound card do you have... if you are going onboard (i know asus does this) some onboards change the mic input to a 5.1 surround output... check those setting first.... also is that channel on your mixer muted or not up all the way etc... you have it plugged into the right port... also throw on the 20 db boost if it has it... that might help....
 
I am using onboard sound on an ASUS A8V-E DELUXE. I do not know how to change the mic settings for this.

Yes, I know I have the mic in the right port. What is a 20db boost?
 
did you install the audio drivers that came w/ the board.... if you did it will be in those settings... otherwise start/programs/accesorires/entertainmetn/volume control should guide you in the right direction
 
try going to control panel, sound, speech and audio devices, sound and audio devices, voice tab and click on test hardware.

that will take you through a little microphone setup wizard thing.. to adjust levels etc.

if you double click your speaker icon, set the properties to show your microphone level, there
will be a an advanced button under your microphone, click it.. and 20db boost check box is there
 
I have no idea if you have this option, but its worth a shot.

Goto your volume control panel, click the advanced button under the "play control". Make sure that "digital output only" is NOT checked. Again, I don't know if you have this option.

Hahhaa, this is strange, I was actually going to make a very similar thread.

I too suffer from an unusable mic. I have a NEO 2 Plat board and am using its onboard sound. Awhile back I was able to use the mic just fine, but for some reason now I cannot. I have it plugged into my mic port. I have also done the things you suggested (turn up the mic volume, the boost, mic test, etc.).

Anyone have any other ideas. It's weird, it works, but in playback is barely heard. I am using a logitech headset (gamers I believe - the wraparound with huge ear pads).
 
I tried using the boost, and mic test, in the mic test the computer didn't even hear my speak.

I don't get it. It worked before just fine, but it doesn't now?
 
Well for me I don't think I really changed anything. I guess I updated my Mobo drivers as well as my graphics drivers. I will probably reinstall my audio drivers though.
 
you could have a bad driver that you just installed.... but more likely the new driver turned off your mic in... you need to find the audio control for that driver and check its settings... otherwise go back to the audio driver that you were using before
 
Yes, I did update my drivers, So I should uninstall then reinstall my integrated audio drivers?
 
I rolled back to the driver that came with my CD, back when my microphone worked, and it's still not hearing when I speak.
 
Indeed, I updated my audio drivers and I still have the same problem. I'm hoping it's not my mic, seeing as it's less than a month old.
 
Mines 4 years old and its built into my monitor lol its probably just some dumb hidden setting. Never failed me before it shouldnt now.
