Microphone help

Hello. I'm trying to get a microphone working... but it's being stubborn > : |

Yes it's plugged in the right place :p
yes it's enabled in sound and audio

On sound recorder i get a small ammount of static, but this doesn't chnage if the microphone is off or on.

The microphone is a Sony F-V120 (pretty cheap made for pc use typa thing)

I think sound card drivers are SiS 7018


any advice/help is greatly appreciated.
