I'll be going to Cinci to visit family. There is a Microcenter there and I will be going.... like I always do..... it makes me happy, ok.

Since they have prices on hardware that you just can't get many other places, for a fellow folder, I'm willing to pick a few things up.

So send me a PM and we can work something out.

I'd love to help a few people get -bigadv rigs up.

For those who don't know....
i7 920 for $200
i7 860 for $230

And darn good prices on some mobo's

I live really close to MC but I still haven't bought an i920.

Don't forget the $39 dual core celeron too.

I live close to a MC as well, so I can make a run whenever anybody needs something.

Yea theres one within walking distance of my house so if anyone needs something hit me up.

I'm 660 miles from Fry's and so very far from a Micro Center... I have never even been inside a MC.

Thanks for the offers, guys! I might take you up on it after Xmas!

i have a microcenter here in north nj about 25 min away..

its my candyland

Very Tempting on the I7-920...
But with xmas, etc. have to wait.
Very kind offer, the closest MC for
me is about 400 Miles.

I like that they actually carry watercooling components. I got a PA120.3 on clearance for $87. I could probably still resell that for a profit. I have been waiting for them to put a nice pump on clearance for awhile now. I find it funny that they carry waterblocks for the 5870 but they don't carry the 5870.

its like walking into a hardware nerd heaven.. thats about the only way i could put it.. though most of their stuff tends to be on the cheapo end it doesnt matter.. ya cant say the same thing when you walk into a useless over priced bestbuy.. :)

they carry them.. they are just sold out.. lol.. the fry's near my house has been out of 5870's since they launched and they cant even keep them in stock for more then 24 hours though their supply sucks.. and its mostly diamond cards..

I live about 20 minutes from Microcenter. I have been forbidden to go there. :)

i do the same thing at the fry's here because the people that work there are dumber then snot except for department manager she actually knows what she is talking about.. but im also banned from there because i called out the store manager in front of a bunch of the customers because he didnt know a friggin thing he was talking about and was completely selling this customer the wrong thing.. the guy was asking for an AMD motherboard while he was trying to sell him an intel motherboard.. its like give me a break.. your the manager for FFS how stupid can you be.. so i called him out and made him look like a fool so i got kicked out and was told to never come back.. :p they even have a security picture of me up at the customer service desk near the entrance.. though i had short hair then so they still dont recognize me..

before i got my current job, i was really tempted to apply there but idk if they would pay anywhere near to what i was making before and making currently

sadly i worked fry's before but at a different store.. they pay shit and they treat their employee's even worse.. not to mention their quota system is a joke.. i hate places that pay by commission.. and its not even like its that much.. you get 10% of what you sold for the first 500 dollars of the sale.. so if say your printed some one up for 2000 dollars worth of products.. you only got 10% of the first 500.. though things may have changed since i last worked there since it was almost 6 years ago.. i also worked for bestbuy which was insanely worse but i stayed long enough for my 40% discount.. took advantage of it and then left..

starting pay at fry's is 9 bucks an hour here in the bay area(california)..

I was disappointed that the Microcenter BYOPC workers aren't smarter than they are. I'm used to the numb-nuts at Best Buy, but I was hoping a computer store, in the computer parts section, would have competent workers.

I was looking for some triple channel RAM. I didn't see any on the shelf, so I asked the guy behind the counter if he had any 3gb kits. He said "Triple channel only comes in 6GB kits". I said "oh ok". (didn't feel like correcting him at this point)

I saw a corsair 1600mhz 6gb kit in the case. I said "what CAS is that kit?" He said "what?"

I said, "CAS latency." He said, "ummmm".

I said, "just let me look at it."

I then informed him how to find the CAS rating of the kit. I didn't bother to explain what CAS means.

lesson learned

i7 920 for $200
i7 860 for $230

which is what? different sockets? what is the best socket for the future?

which is best?

The 920 is technically better, unless you run it at stock speeds. Supports triple-channel RAM, runs on the LGA1366/X58 platform with 36 PCI-E lanes, etc. The 860 uses dual-channel RAM and runs on the LGA1156/P55 platform with only 20 PCI-E lanes.

It is more like the GF wont let me go there unsupervised. :D

like zero said.. 920's technically better.. because of the triple channel IMC.. plus its LGA-1366 which is more future proof socket.. well unless intel decides to change the socket again in a year or so..

the benefit the 860 has is that it does overclock better then the 920 since it has a higher cpu multiplier.. but at the same time 1156 really doesnt have that good of a upgrade path.. the odds of seeing the i9 on it are going to be pretty slim or it will be at least a year or more after it being released for 1366..

What's the current timeline for release of 6 core Intels with HT?

am I correct in assuming that the 200$ is over?

yes it appears the $199 standing price is over. I'm sad to say

Yeh, I'm not very happy bout this. I was planning a second i7 after the SMP2 comes out.

It's still far lower than retail everywhere else though. I mean yeah it sucks it went up $30 but it's still cheap compared to everywhere else unless you buy used.

Just want to thank Kendrak for picking one up for me.
Although my motherboard was DOA, I hope to have it up and running in a couple weeks or so.

Is anyone having issues overclocking with 12gigs of ram?

Is anyone having issues overclocking with 12gigs of ram?

YES.

I'm running 8 rite now because of this.

My hope is the new windows SMP uses less RAM because of lower overhead and 6 will be enough. That will mean I have enough RAM for my second system already.

I'm not having probs. Check my sig for specs.

I think it has to do with the memory and the mobo combo. They just don't like each other in 12 GB

Is anyone having issues overclocking with 12gigs of ram?

Yes and no, but not because it's 12gigs.

I'm having oc issues because my ram is being picky....but not because I have all 6 dimm slots populated. I would recommend 1600 ram though (learn from my mistake). I bought 1333 and thought I'd be fine and worst case I could just change the divider...well my ram is being really picky about what speeds it will and won't run.
