I am currently using the mouse on my Wacom Graphire 2 but it is wearing out the drawing surface. I am looking into a wireless optical mouse. Will I notice a difference? Which one is the best (I've heard good things about the Microsoft ones)?
 
I agree. For once, Microsoft did something right. I have only the older model, but I still just love the thing. An optical mouse just runs so much smoother and with a higher resolution than most ball mice (this excludes those explicitely made for FPS gaming and drawing/etc.) The advantage of the intellimous is that it's pretty darned cheap while still being very good.

Oh, and many people these days are going with a weird looking Logitech wireless thing. I personally couldn't ever get comfortable with the sideways shape, but I think it might be easier on your hands in the long run if you can get used to it.

Optionally, they make these padding things you can put on the bottom of a mouse, or you can get a pad that's better made to handle such things. Still, I say that if you don't have an optical mouse, it's way past time to upgrade.

BTW, who REALLY needs a wireless mouse? I mean, come on. The keyboard I can understand, but the mouse you aren't going to move around with if you expect to be able to use it worth a crap.

No wires hampering movement is the simple answer.

Logitech and Microsoft by far are the best.
 
I actually find no point to cordless keyboards but I think cordless mice are essential. :p

I really see no point to ither one of them and i do ALOT of different things on my computer and i'm usually on it all day and night when i'm home.

The Microsoft Intelli 4.0 w/ tilt wheel is a superb mouse and its an ergo so it fits your hand very nicely. I love the feel of it. VERY comfortable. It tracks very well also using the same optical sensor that the MX500 does.
 
No one NEEDS wireless mice or keyboard, but it's nice to not have two more wires in my jungle of ethernet cables and power cords. Plus I find that some of the mice I buy don't have long enough cables for me to comfortably use.

As for a wireless mouse, my personal preference is the logitech MX700 because I haven't tried the MS 4.0 wireless Intellimouse Explorer yet.

Thats true but there is always the tradeoff between wireless and corded. With wireless you have your reasons for having one and with corded mice you dont have to worry about batteries (buying new ones and rechargeing regularly), added heaviness of the mouse from the batteries, or any lag at all that you might get from the wireless mouse when it has its split second delays in decodeing the wireless signal.
 
Here's a little trick I always do with mice when I'm playing a game or whatever. Pull the cord up a good bit onto the desk. Bend it in something of a very big U shape a little bit away from where it connects to the mouse. Turn the U shaped part over once so that it's kind of half twisted. Then just set that up above the mouse pad. Since I started doing that, I never had issues with the mouse cord getting caught or anything else like that to slow down my FPS (that's Frags Per Second.) Lol d-:
 
I cannot recommend the Logitech Mx700 strongly enough. The mouse is rock solid and extremely comfortable.
