I recently built a new computer with the ASUS A8V-E DELUXE motherboard and I am using the onboard sound.

I am using a monitor that has a microphone on top of it. So I connect the mic jack into my motherboard and it doesn't work. I checked the mute and sound thingies and everything is ok. I have no idea what the problem is because this mic worked on all of my other computers just fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?
 
Just to make sure, open your main "volume center" in windows.....under your main (master) volume, click the advanced button and make sure "Digital output only" is NOT checked.

if this does not fix it, then goto your control panel, goto sound and audio devices, click the Audio tab, and see what it says under the "Sound recording" seciont for default device. If that is correct, then click the Volume setting. And as always, make sure that the other volume controls for listening to it are not muted or low.

Do you have the +20dB boost on in the software?

These are some of the things I would look at first.

Well what is the 20db boost thing and how do i get to it?

Ok, open up the windows volume panel, and look for microphone. Do you see a button under it that says "advanced"?

If not, click Options > Advanced Controls. Then a little advanced button should appear under the microphone section. Click it to get to the option.

This will just software boost the signal about 20dB.

I tried that, and now my mic makes this humming sound, but I still dont get my voice when I speak into it.
 
Check that you have your flex jack settings correct. You might have to set the audio to 2 speaker setup to have one of the ports that are able to be set as microphone. If it's in 6.1 audio mode or something then the three audio jacks all become outputs, leaving no room for a mic jack.
 
do you have another mic to test against... check to see if your monitor does not have that mic mutted... it will be somewhwere in the OSD
 
press the menu or whater you press to get to color settings on your MONITOR... search through there for mic mute....
