In reply to the post on the front page, I'd like to post my own comparison.

Here it is for reference:

P2P In Supreme Court Tomorrow:
United States Supreme Court will hear the landmark P2P case the MGM Studios has brought against Grokster and StreamCast. What will the Supreme Court do? It is hard to tell but I know a lot of you compare this case to an automobile maker being sued because of the actions of a drunk driver. We’ll keep a close eye on this tomorrow.

I like the comparison, although I think a closer one would be an automobile maker who makes cars with beer kegs installed being sued because of the actions of a drunk driver.

P2P will always be around because of the groundbreaking beta-max case. Technology cannot be held back because of copywright laws. The result in the case was that as long as there is a substaintial legal use of a piece of technology, then the technology itself is legal.

On the flip side though, by adding things such as searching methods that can search media for "artist, album, etc", they are norrowing down on music and movies. And since 99% of music and movies are not freely available, it probably makes 99.9999% of the downloaded media copywright, and therefore grokster cannot make the argument that there is a substaintial legal use for grokster.

But folks, we really don't need to worry as this is not going to hold back technology. P2P is here to stay.
