Does anyone know where i can get aluminum/steel or any metal for that matter plating, like 1/8" thickness. Ive gone to all the hardware stores and all they have is sheet metal thats really thin. Does anyone know of anyplace either online or not where i can get this stuff ???

A metal shop. Look in your yellow pages under 'metal'.
 
I agree. If you can't get it locally, it almost isn't worth getting. The shipping charges are pretty crazy on such bulky, heavy items. If you're wanting plate metal, aluminum is really your only option, and isn't cheap. Plate steel is too heavy to do anything with, unless you're just wanting to make a doorstop :p
