i got this thing a couple days ago and have yet to get it to work. i have tried everything but it keeps saying the HDD in it is not formatted and whatnot. it wont even get assigned a drive letter. it is picked up under disk drives in device manager, but doesnt even ask if i want to format it....it is formatted as FAT32, i did that with it hooked up via IDE internally. if anyone has this and has the CD that came with it, plz PM me. i accidentally broke my CD when i got it from NewEgg.....any help would be appreciated greatly.

Start > Run > (type) diskmgmt.msc > do you see it? > If not Action Button > Rescan Disks > Rclick unallocated space > Partition and format

Are you running Win98SE?? Judging by your problems, I'd say so.

If so, it has issues with external HDDs. Usually 1394 is more problematic, but USB can be an issue.

I believe you'll need two updates from Microsoft called...

  • Critical Updates Package
  • Storage Supplemental Update

Then you may need to go into the device manager and manually assigning a drive letter for the drive. After that, it should function as normal.

Win98 !!!!! ME

friends dont let friends run ME :p

my instructions are NT\W2K\XP\W2003 specific
there is no Disk Management in W95\98\ME ;)
