"Shortly after the news broke of Dye's departure, Zuckerberg announced a new creative studio within Reality Labs that would be led by Dye. There, he'll be joined by Billy Sorrentino, another former Apple designer who led interface design across Reality Labs; Joshua To, who led interface design across Reality Labs; Meta's industrial design team, led by Pete Bristol; and its metaverse design and art teams led by Jason Rubin.

Zuckerberg said the studio would "bring together design, fashion, and technology to define the next generation of our products and experiences." "Our idea is to treat intelligence as a new design material and imagine what becomes possible when it is abundant, capable, and human-centered," the Meta CEO wrote on Threads. "We plan to elevate design within Meta, and pull together a talented group with a combination of craft, creative vision, systems thinking, and deep experience building iconic products that bridge hardware and software.""

How about an option to disable that fake intelligence shit in whatsapp? Or better yet, remove it altogether.

Most support questions I get from family these days is about that fucking circular button no one asked for. Worst of it is that they all claim not to be able to handle life without whatsapp. The tech industry has trained them monkeys well, it seems.

Meta poaching Apple’s design folks and talking about ‘intelligence as a design material’ sounds ambitious... maybe it leads to cool products and not just more AI buttons nobody asked for.

Well-known Apple ecosystem blogger (and sometimes vocal critic) John Gruber said Alan Dye's exit was a good thing (this isn't the only piece on it, either).

Apparently, insiders at Apple weren't big fans of Dye. His background is more in branding and advertising than UI design, so he was more concerned about how things looked than how they worked. His replacement, Stephen Lemay, is said to be a top-notch UI expert. So if you've been complaining about Apple interfaces in the past decade, you might get some relief in the years ahead.

The interesting thing to me is that Gruber painted this as potentially positive for both Apple and Meta, as Dye might be a better fit for Meta (where the visual aesthetic definitely isn't a strong point).
