I'm using my parents computer, and XP keeps automatically setting stuff to read-only... i'll change the properties of those files and/or folders, but as soon as I look at the properties again, it's back to read-only...

What is causing the problem?
How do I fix it?

Make sure the parent folder isn't read only.

For instance if all the mainn folders at c: are read only like c:\windows, c:\documents and settings, and c:\program files and they were set to read only and applied the attributes to all subfolders than everytime you cange one of those subfolders to plain archive they'll get set back to read only.

already did that... I changed the read-only on the folder and all of the subfolders and files... then I went into that folder to delete a file in there, and it was reset to read-only

this is one of M$'z saftey features for computer ilitiratez so they dont delete system filez

A file doesnt have to be writable to delete it, windowz will juz complain a little bit then check that you really wana delete the file
