I recently sent in my Leadtek 6800gt for an rma... something went very wrong... so I stuck my trusty Leadtek 5900xt in my comp and it was fine for about a week.
I had used this card for more than a year, it has a modded leadtek bios in it, it was running at 450/928, and could run higher with a big fan on it, but I kept it conservative since it put the quiet stock fan back on it. Everything had always been fine with it and it had run this way for quite some time.
My problems started a few days ago when I couldn't get windows to boot and all I got was screen corruption and a lot of lines on my bios boot screen. I messed with it for a while, cleaned and checked connections and I flashed it back to the stock bios.
It was really screwed up and would not work at all, but the next day it worked fine and did for a few days, but is now back to having vertical lines all over the screen.
The only way I could get it to work work was by installing a fresh copy of windows xp on an extra drive. It will not boot if I install the video card drivers. The only way the card will work is without the drivers running at 640x400 with 8-bit color! If I go any higher it will go to the power saving thing on my monitor.
Everytime I attempt to reinstall the video drivers or even reboot without removing the video card from the hardware manager it will not boot.
I know that the card is pretty much screwed, I have even made a bios with lower gpu and ram speeds to see if that would work and it didn't. Can anyone think of anything I can do to at least get it to work a little bit better so I can at least browse the internet and pay my friggin bills online and stuff? Is there another bios I could try that would maybe make it work? Anything at all!? I can't use my computer like this anymore. And I am broke, so I can't go out and get a $20 card to hold me over.
