i just ran memtest86 and it hungs twice at the same exact spot, and same exact time (3 minutes 17 seconds)

here's a shot of it after it froze (first time i left it about 10 minutes but it wasnt doing anything, and the lights on my keyboard died, so there was no activity at all, 2nd time i just restarted and here i am now)

could this mean that i have a faulty memory stick? i started doubting it after i saw that people were running extremely low timings with theirs, but all i could manager was 6-3-3-2 at 2.8volts (others were getting 6-2-2-2 or 5-3-2-2)

should i rma the ram?

specs in sig.

well i just raised timings from 7-3-3-2 to 7-3-3-2.5 and it still hung

this time it got to 40% on the test, but still 55% on the pass rate, lasted 3 seconds longer (3 minutes 20 seconds) and it hung again

so i guess it is faulty ram isnt it? :(

up

anyone?

ive tried 4 times since, everytime hangs at the same place (55%)

which is test 4 (2nd run). it got to test 5, 0% and it stopped

tried running timings at 8-4-4-3 and voltage at 2.75, still froze. i noticed that right before it freezes, all the keys for caps, num, scroll lock will light up, then turn off and the prog hangs. while its running all of them are on.
could it be its because i have a bunch of usb devices plugged in or what?
right now running 6-3-3-2 in windows, stock voltage, and turbo is on, ran prime95 (memory stress test) for an hour and no errors at all. so im not sure if its a problem with my memtest86 copy (its an iso burned on a cd, got it right from their site) or if the problem is with my ram.

I read an article where the best timings were CAS2-2-2-11. With the last setting being what they were refering too.

Going lower actually impeded performance. Tom's had an article about this, but there was just another one recently. I wish I could remember it so I could give the link......

As far as your Memtest results, try removing one DIMM at a time and see if it goes away and then test that one DIMM by itself.

Then try to change the DIMMs around and see if the time and location of the error changes also. Looks like you may have a faulty stick of RAM.

met-al, im only using 1 dimm
john, ill try that right now, thx for letting me know
and if that doesnt work ill try the winmem diag tool

thx again

that fixed it
ran all test 5 times with a 100% success rate, no errors at all

thanks alot john
