Memtest86 and errors

OCZ Memory Stick 1 passes memtest86 in slot 1,2, and 4, but fails in slot 3
OCZ Memory Stick 2 passes memtest86 in slot 1,2, and 4, but fails in slot 3

I set timings in Bios to 5 5 5 15 and Voltage to 2.1 per OCZ's request

Memtest86 shows 533 1066 5 5 5 15 (What does the 533 mean and is it right)

Problem is that one stick works but using two sticks cause all sorts of problems including rounding errors in superpi and Orthos as well as general system errors.

well both sticks are fine its the board causing this.

What you can do is make sure both stick are seated properly, timings are manually in and the voltage is correct for the DRAM.

533 is the correct speed for 1066 speeds. Report back when your done.
 
I spoke to OCZ for a long time and we did the following.

We set the memspeed to 800 instead of 1066 and the two sticks are running fine in slot 2 and 4. Orthos has been running for an hour without any errors.

Now, with the memory at 800 I will run single stick memtest in the different channels. I will see if the memory will pass in channel 3 now.

If not, i will contact Gigabyte and potentially RMA the board.

Well, orthos is running fine fo 30 minutes with the memory set at 800.

So why would 1066 memory fail at 1066 but work at 800???
 
ive seen a few boards that are really picky about what slots you use.. some if using 2 sticks of ram only like 2 specific slots to be used but will work perfectly fine when running 4 sticks of ram populating all 4 slots.. and this might be the case.. if you have 2 extra sticks of ddr2 memory doesnt matter really if they match up speed wise.. try throwing them in and seeing if they error out.. the motherboard should automatically clock them all to the slowest stick of ram.. if you get errors then its probably the board..
 
I spoke to Gigabyte and they told me to buy either Kingston or Corsair memory. Zipzoomfly had a set of 2gb PC8500 DDR2 memory for $9.50 after rebate. These were also on the Gigabyte approved list.

They were so cheap it was worth seeing if they work. If I see problems i will ask gigabyet to replace the board. If it is fine, i will just save the OCZ for my next build.
