memtest64+ lots of errors while WIN 10 memory test is clean

I am getting about 500 errors on a 5.5 year old ASUS Ramgage III X58 board with 12 GB (6 sticks at 2 GB) of memory running Memtest 64+ for 7 passes. I also ran WIN 10 memory test in both quick and extended mode which did not detect any errors which has me puzzled.

I know I am having problems with imaging with Macrium Reflect as Marcrium flags errors on imaging the ASUS system running a Samsung 850 256 GB SSD. Other than that here no other symptoms. I tried three different hard drives to image to with more of less similar results. Sometimes imaging succeeds for a particular HD without errors but in the end it remains inconsistent point to random memory or cache errors.

I believe, the 5+ year-old Rampage systems is toast as there are way too memory many errors.

I was thinking of buying new sticks of memory for this old board, but I am concerned that this is just a waste of time as the 980X processor could also have its own problem.

Any comments & suggesting on how to further troubleshoot are welcome

Try out HCI memtest in Windows.

I wouldn't trust the built in one for one second.

Have you tried reseating your RAM and processor?

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to defaults and see if that changes anything.

I really, really doubt it is the CPU unless you have been majorly overvolting it all this time.

Appreciate the suggestions.

Will try BIOS reset to default values first followed by trying out HCI memtest software.

I have never overclocked in my life as I care about stability.

replaced all DDR3 memory with 4x4GB DIMMs and this apparently solved my problem.

Ran MemTest86+ for about 36 hours or a total of 11 passes with no errors!

I had a ECC equipped workstation in a few weeks ago that kept getting memory errors on boot. Memtest didn't find anything.

So I just took the ram out and cleaned the gold contacts with isopropyl and a cloth. The inside of the case was clean but there was a black build up on the contacts that the cloth picked up. Slotted them back in, worked like a charm.
