memtest error on test 7

Hello,

Trying to help my father with a memory error. He was running 2x512mb and worked fine. He bought 2x1gb Samsung Cas 3 2.5v 400mhz ram, and windows would not boot. We ran memtest, and it throws a ton of errors on test 7.

Motherboard is: MSI K8N Neo4-F

When I manually set CAS to 3 and increased voltage to 2.65, there were far fewer errors, but over a period of an hour some errors did show up. I do not know if these were test 7 or not, I can find out if that is important.

What else could / should be changed in the bios to perhaps get this to run properly.

Here is a screen shot of the original memtest:

Are you testing the pair or testing them individually? If you tried the pair, try them individually instead for 3-5 passes each.

great, that should allow you to weave out the problem stick if it is a case of the "faulty stick" scenario ;)

Use the Microsoft memory scanner, it's a very nice tool. You can run both sticks, it tells you what slot has the error. Run them at stock voltage/speed, and run the extended test by pressing 'T'. Let it run overnight.

Memtest is a better test for finding faulty modules. But, it certainly can't hurt to run both.

from what I can tell, it is most likely not an issue with the dimms, but with the settings in the bios.
