I recently upgraded from a Athlon 64 clawhammer 3200+ to a Athlon 64 newcastle 3400+ on a Chaintech VNF-250 motherboard. I have two Kingston 512 pc32000 modules. The modules ran fine at the default spd values and CMD of 1t with the 3200. When I upgraded to a 3400 I could no longer run the same modules at 1t. Windows wouldn't even boot. I set the command rate to 2t and everything has been fine but my memory benchmarks are low. The only thing that has changed is the processor. I also tried a different motherbaord (Gigabyte K8NS) and everything is still the same. The modules will run at 1t with them installed seperately just not in pairs. I tried increasing the memory volatge and it dind't help. Is the memory controller on the newcastle that different from the clawhammer? FYI- I am running an Antec 550 watt true control power supply ( with a stable 3.3 volt as far as I can tell) and the clawhammer was bought in Nov 2003( so it is one of the first run chips I assume). Any suggestions? Thanks.
