i'm currently using the corsair twin2x2048-6400 and am running them at 4-4-4-12@2.1v
edit: at 860mhz too

i'm planning to add another 2gb of ram and am just wondering if there're any restrictions as to what brand/type i can choose from? i've heard from a friend of mine who insist i should get the exact model that i'm currently using for the best possible compatibility.

any ideas? thanks.
 
Your friend is right. If you get the same brand/type, you should'nt run into compatibility problems.

You can buy a different brand/type but make sure you get something with the same timings or slower timings. All 4 dimms will be running at the same timings and same voltage (at least on my mobo) so make sure both rams can run at the same settings.
 
ok my original intent was to upgrade the memory capacity as i just recently installed 32-bit vista home premium and its one memory eating monster.

the above link mention something about users cannot utilize all 4gb memory in 32-bit vista when you have 4gb physical memory installed.

so what are my best options here? should i try increasing capacity to like 3gb with 2x512mb ram with the 2 opening dimm slots? if thats the case whats the best brand/type i should get to go with my current twin2x2048-6400? thanks
