Hi,

I recently bought an Asus UX501 laptop, with 8gb RAM installed. When I bought it the info said that it could take up to 16gb RAM, but now when I am planning to put in an extra 8gb I realize that there are two 4gb ram sticks installed, one of which is soldered in place, ie can't be removed.
So, it looks like I can only have 12gb installed, even though the motherboard supports 16gb. This made me wonder - Can I in any way disable the ram slot that the soldered stick is using and put an 16 gb stick in the remaining slot? Would that be an possible workaround, or am I stuck with maximum 12 gb no matter what? Hoping for some good advice :)
 
I don't think they make 16gb so-dimm sticks even if you wanted to try that.

Did you open it up and check to be sure? Everything online says you should have an open slot and 8gb soldered to the board.
