Memory timing and FSB question.....

Hi all

I got my new system a few days ago,
P4 2.4A (prescott), IC7-G and DDR 4200 OCZ etc

Until now I managed to do the following overclockings:

2700, 150 bus with timings 2-2-2-5 (1-1)

and

2800, 156 bus with timings 2-3-3-5 (1-1)

which you think is better?

Better timings or more FSB?
Is there any way to get lower timings at 2800? maybe more V? and how much? which is the limit?

I believe the point is to get lower numbers to get better timings but....
2-3-3-5 or 2.5-2-2-7 is better?
If you want to get better timings and performance which is the most important no. to get lower and then proceed from there..

in my experience, low timings provide less performance than a higher fsb. those timings that you have at 2800 are still very respectable, so i would go with those. and yes you could try upping the ram voltage, that usually will let you squeez a little extra out.

is that right, 150mhz bus = 300 mhz ddr < pc2700? you sure you dont mean 250mhz? you should be getting a lot more outta that pc4200 than that.

By 150 FSB i mean

18*150=2700

so the actual bus is 600 at this point.

i find that higher fsb helps more than lower latencies. i have that same ram and mine runs at 271fsb with 3-3-3-8. that gives me 6.3gb's with sisoft sandra

cant you lower the multiplier and increase the fsb? or still just fsb on intels?

Why not just run a few benchmarks and see? Pick the apps you "value" the most, see which gives you the highest scores, and go from there.

us intel folk dont have that luxury of adjusting multipliers
