For ddr3 memory, what test should i run on a new i7 build to make sure all my sticks are good?

any recommendations on perfromance tests? is the new 3Dvantage a good test from Futuremark?
 
You can, or you can probably just hit a ESC at boot to select the boot drive for this boot only.
 
Yes you should change the boot order, but also make sure you burn it as an image disk and not a data disk. There are many free progs that do this, I myself use ImgBurn.

will try that when I get home. burned the disk as a file, not an image.
 
Make sure you get the latest version if you don't already have it for full i7 compatibility. Are you having issues or just wanting to test the memory?

By that do you mean you have the .iso file on the CD or did you "restore" the files contained in the ISO to the empty disc? The former won't work, you need to "restore" it.
 
I didn't burn the image to a cd, just copied the file. I'm running Imgburn right now, but it is not erasing the disc I am using. it's stalling.

Not having issues, just want to test the memory.
 
is speedfan more reliable temp wise then coretemp?? coretemp is showing 90 - 100 degrees in the cores during prime95, but speed fan is showing 78 - 85 degrees. i'm confused.:confused:

Real Temp would be the most accurate for the i7 processors followed by Core Temp. I wouldn't trust Speedfan.

Doesn't really matter either way. Manufacturers' monitoring utilities monitor temperatures from sensors built into the motherboard, which aren't even remotely accurate. The only way to get a halfway reliable reading is by using a program like Real Temp or Core Temp which reads the distance to Tjmax from the onboard DTSes.
 
The main reason I asked is to see if the OP was possibly using 2 utilities simultaneously which is never a good idea.

Not necessarily. Sometimes it's good to use a second utility to make sure the first is reporting correctly, especially with apps like Core Temp and Real Temp which should always be reporting identical values.
 
Let me get this correct. Download the free trial of memtest86,
then burn it to a cd as an image data? Then just boot up the disk?
 
Download the pre-compiled bootable ISO, then burn it to a CD using a program like Imgburn that can write ISOs. Then, just set your BIOS to boot from your optical drive, stick the CD in the drive, and boot normally.

OK. How about my Nero. It burns image data. Same thing?
