is there a difference between a hard drive running at 5400 rpm and 7200 or higher rpm outside of persise benchmarks??? is ram timing a big deal????

Dude... Your RAM doesn't spin at any rpm, RAM timing refers to the time it takes the memory chips to respond to certain commands. RAM chips are soldered onto memory modules which you plug into your motherboard; there are no moving parts. :eek:

Hard Drives do not generally fall into the "memory" category per say. They are magnetic discs that spin at different rates. The faster they spin, the faster one can usually read data off of them. The current standard is 7,200rpm for desktop machines; buying a drive that spins slower than that will have a significant impact in its performance.

i never said that ram had a rpm dumbass!!!! i said ram timings!!!!! and maybe hard drives are not put in the memory category, I HAD 2 SEPERATE QUESTIONS, PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!!!!! then where should i post my questuion!?!?

Your nickname seems accurate. Chill, dude, it'll get answered - unless you keep bitching. And asking a question about memory timings in the HD forum won't help, either.

7200 RPM drives are a heck of a lot faster. They take more power, and generate more heat, though.
