Are there any issues with ch-5 chips on Asus P4C800-E deluxe running with a 5:4 divider 250FSB?
I'm thinking of getting som Twinmos Winbond which supposedly has the ch-5's on them.
what happens is the computer BSOD's or doesn't post whenever you hit the "wall" of the ram. Sometimes the ram is good up to around 267fsb (that's been around the highest the wall gets) other times it BSOD's or won't even post at stock speeds. so people stay away from the ram because...you won't get the highest oc that your cpu might do because the ram holds you back and it might not even post at it's stock speeds
Had the exact same problem... installing xp failing to read files off the CD and BSODing during the last stages of installation. Luckily i've had this kind of problem before with a RAM that was burnt out on my friend's Gigabyte board. I Take the RAM out and reseat it back in to the mother board. and WTF? it works perfectly fine 2-2-2-5 and stable. i don't get it...
I read that there is problems with the CH5-based chips due to the fact they they automatically readjust voltages I believe. I can be totally wrong though.
Yes, this CH5 thing annoys the hell out of me. I bought some Corsair TwinX pc3700 to go along with my 2.4c, and my overclock is limited by my ram now. I have not even upped the volate on my CPU yet, so i'm stuck at like 3.145ish, UGH.
Nice to see a compalation of problems that people are having with ram on the 865 and 875 boards, heres my ram swapping saga:
Mobo IS7-E and G
2.4c - stable @ 3.6 w/ 1.65 actual vcore, getts too warm on air, water-cooling in the future
Corsair Value ram PC3200, 2x512: good at all fsb up to 300 and with all dividers but ram wouldnt post over 218 mhz no matter what divider, and only with lax timings
Buffalo PC3700 - micron chips 2x512: crap, had issues even @ 200 mhz with 1:1 with any timings, couldnt get a good feel for how well it worked with other dividers
Corsair XMS PC3500C2 1X512: Initially would not even post with fsb over 250 and using 5:4 and 3:2 dividers, Check out GAT settings, changed them to auto, normal, auto, disabled, disabled. Now ram is memtest86 error free @ 230 with 5:4 divider and 2-2-6-2 timings
Mushkin Level 2 Black PC3500, 2x512: ram would run error free up to 216 mhz, with either 5:4 or 3:2 divider and 2-2-5-2 timings, also would run error free up to 222 mhz with 2-3-5-2 timings. With 1:1 divider the comp would post up to 233 with 2-3-6-2 timings
with 5:4 divider the comp would NOT POST with ram past 222 mhz....
with 3:2 divider good up to 193, then intermitent crashes, with no errors in memtest would occur... this with the proc tested, recently, @ 3.6 and good to run up to 2 hrs b4 heat caused errors in prime 95
So, at any rate, the xms must be a stick with BH5 chips, cuz once the GAT settings were set right, this stuff hauls serious ass.
I was very suprised by the Mushkin, i bought it expecting no issues... ended up with the no post when using the dividers and pushing the ram past 222 mhz.... RMA'd to newegg, hopefully the new sticks will do better.
I've went through 4 different kinds of memory in about 2months.
corsair pc3200 rev1.1 bh5
did 302 @ 3:2 about 265ish at 5:4 and about 225 1:1
these sticks burnt out I think and would barely run at stock speeds so I sold them off.
ocz pc4000 EL
did 273 1:1 hated all dividers
mushkin black level II
did about 250ish 1:1 worked better with dividers but dud sticks.
ocz pc4200 (current)
270 1:1 still dosent like dividers.
the mushkin and ocz pc4200 were fed 3.2v, I began to believe my cpu was wearing down. I have a new 2.4c and p4c800-e on order. we'll see if these pc4200 sticks fare any better in a new setup. interesting thread none the least.
Mushkin Level One is now using CH-5 chips, or at least the 2x256 PC3500 sticks I orded from newegg a few weeks back were. They hit the 5:4/3:2 wall around 262mhz.
I have a pair of Hynix PC3200 512MB sticks with D43 chips on them. At 2.7V they reach 280MHz 1:1 3-4-4-8 in my IC7. Their performance seems comparable to my old Geil running 5:4 225Mhz 2.5-3-3-6
I have a question is there an issue putting corsair xms3000 on the canterwood ?
on my it7 I can get it up to 440mhz so I know it can do 400mhz but I bought a p4p800 deluxe and it wouldnt even post dont have any other ram to try out but I did try a single stick to see if that would work but it didnt
does anyone know of any boards that they have used 333mhz sticks or 375 like mine
I am in the process of building my first computer and am seeking advice on system memory based on information contained in my signature.
Can someone please confirm that the memory on this dual channel motherboard has to be added in (matched pairs) i.e 2 ea. 512 for total of 1 gig.
Also, in looking at the Asus site (downloaded PDF file) they claim that "some memory brands" can only be installed in two memory slots: i.e. which only allows for maximum of 1 gig memory. Other memory brands can be installed in all four memory slots for a total of 2 gig.
It seems that this motherboard is sensitive to the type of memory.
In reviewing the posts submitted here it seems that the Mushkin Level II PC3200/3500 is guaranteed BH5 and is installed in various members computers.
I am just an average user and don't intend on overclocking my computer, but would like to put some "rock solid computer memory" that has no issues with my Asus motherboard.
Do I need to buy the memory in "matched pairs" as I have a dual channel system?
Can anyone give me the correct part numbers for ordering these memory modules on NewEgg or other competitve vendor.
Folks - this post got chopped beyond value in the latest prune. As such, I'm going to lock it and cut it loose. If the original poster wants to repost his great thread.....I'll bet we can sticky it...
