I just have a few questions about memory I am considering for my next system which I plan to OC and watercool.

I am very torn between Corsair and HyperX, both being dual channel kits, I was wondering which is recomended, I beleive I will be getting the Abit IC7-MAX3 board and I know these boards support DDR400 but I know that lots of people buy PC3700 and up. What exactly is the performance change by doing this?

Also I see that the Max3 supports ECC memory, does having ECC memory improve stability of your system or what exactly is the advantage to this?

Also I would like to ask about timings, I for some reason never learned what timings exactly mean and how much they affect the system speed. If anyone could explain this or post a link to something explaining it would be awsome.

So in general please comment on what you would suggest for memory between corsair and hyperX, I also like hyperX because it is cheaper.

Thanks guys

Timings= lower the better, they are pretty much just delays between actions on the RAM.

If you are OCing make sure you give yourself some headroom on your RAM, say like PC 3500, 3700, 4000. But watch the timings when you start going higher. Often they will be much worse kind of diminishing the fact that your getting more bandwidth out of them RAM.

go with Mushkin, they make the best RAM modules out there man... Sometimes they can be a little more pricey than the Corsair and Kingston, but as they say, you get what you pay for :D

another alternative since u have a max3 would be to check out bb or cc for some kingston valuram with bh6 chips, occasionally u can find some pc2700 256 stiks with them. they run real fast with tight timings if have a mb capable of 3+volts, plus u can get a couple 2x256 stiks for dirt cheap with a rebate. check this out..
