I have a n older PC GA 845E which uses PC 2700. I am thinking of getting new and larger memory for this like a 2GB PC4000 or whatever is the best now

Getting DDR2 or DDR3 or whatever is the most fastest like 2-4GB DDR3 and a few months later use it on a different PC? Can this be done ? I think memory is backward compatible right as the current board supports PC2700 in it but only 512MB in it

memory is not backwards compatible. ddr2 won't work in a ddr board, and ddr3 isn't even really ready for production yet ;)

also, check out what memory speeds your mobo is rated for. if you're not oc'ing, it's useless to go over the max speed :p

Thanks so much.. I was only thinking of delaying my purchase of a new system due to lack of funds... n just upgrading the memory only. Advise for a 533 system not even a 800 FSB system.. get a newer CPU and keep it still or upgrade to a new swish bang ddr5 [just kidding], opteron, Dual cores, 4gb DDR 888 or what Gigabyte says, raptors, etc.. etc ^_^

it supports 800mhz fsb? i presume it supports pc3200 then. how much ram do you have now? hell, why don't you just tell us the whole rig. it's real handy when trying to decide what ram to tell someone to get ;)

oh the FSB is 400 or 533. Memory supports PC1600 or 2100 which I use 512MB PC2700 samsung for about 2+ or more years now, it is an old PC 2.4ghz but works well..did not OC it at all.. did it before to 2.6 or 2.7 works well but oh well 2.4 is enough do not play games due to that.

well.. you have the fastest ram your mobo appears to support, though you still haven't listed what you have. i don't even know how much ram you plan on upgrading from to be able to tell you if it's really a wise idea :(
