I currently have 512 megs of Kingston HyperX pc3200 ddr (2 X 256 in dual channel) and I need to upgrade to 1 gb now. I am wondering what my best bet is for ordering more memory.

Should I get another 512 of matching hyperX (2 X 256) so I can have 4 X 256 in dual channel mode? If I do this, then I have the chance of the newer memory along with my older memory not wanting to overclock to 220mhz with timings of 2-3-3-11 like my current memory.

Should I just get 1 gb of really tight timed memory that will run at least 220 - 230mhz? If so, what type should I get and where can I get it cheap? :D

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Does you mobo got 4 DIMM for RAMs? It does usually 3 DIMMs on any Socket A mobo. I am afraid that your mobo only have 3 DIMMs for it.

In the case you have only 3 DIMMs, you can only set up Dual Channel mode on 2 DIMMs only. I recommend you to re-sell ya Dual Kit then get another pair (Corsair for instance). If you are in US, www.newegg.com is absolutely the best place where you can get [H] stuff with best service.

Good luck

Some of the newer socket A boards have 4 dimms for the dual channel. I reccomend to sets of 2 x 256 dual channel kits for the simple fact that 4 x 256 will yield more performance than 2 x 512. It's proven because there are more ram modules for information to pass through and it doesn't have to wait for the memory to clear as often. If that makes sense to you. Sell your memory and get two new sets of dual channel.

Yeah I have 4 dimm slots for dual channel. I already have a 512 that run great in dual channel so shouldn't I have to just get one more kit? It's not like it would really be different if I just got 2 new kits cuz those kits wouldn't match. Unless they sell like kits of 4 X 256.

I'll probably just get another 512 kit of hyperX. Thanks.
