Memory Overclock

I currently have my system overclocked right now to these settings.

FSB: 380 mhz
Mult: x 11.5
CPU: 2185 mhz

The memory I'm currently running is generic 512 chip rated at 333 mhz 2.5-3-3-7 running 1:1 at 380 mhz 3-4-4-8 at 2.7v. I just wanted to verify that it is probably my memory that is not letting me get my clock above 380. Everytime I try to go higher I can't boot up without major problems. I ran prime 95 all night last night without any errors so it seems stable at 380.

The reason I ask is that I have a set of OCZ 2x512 Plat 2-3-2-5 DDR400 on the way and am hoping this will allow me to push my clock up over 400.
 
Ok, so I'm able to boot into windows at 390 mhz now...let's see how stable this thing is.

Still looking for some feedback if anyone has any.
 
ok to clarify your FSB is really half of that, because DDR doubles the speed (double data rate..duh?). Also Your OCZ sticks run at 200MHz (or 400) as their stock speed, thus you probably can push your FSB over 400. Your only limit, therefore, will be your CPU or your motherboard (and possibly your PSU, but not very likely).

Another thing, you have cheapo generic RAM, which really isn't really performance RAM designed for overclocking, so don't expect too much from them.

So my FSB is at 195, hopefully stable.

I take it you think that it might be a memory issue getting to 200 as of right now?
 
Seems most likely...also is that a mobile chip? I'm guessing no..right?
 
Download Prime95 and run the Small FFT torture test to see if that overclock is stable :p
 
Right, it is not a mobile.

I do have Prime 95 and plan to run it over night tonight.

I also got my video card overclocked too and testing things out again.

Another thing I forgot to mention. This is on my stock heatsink lapped to 2000 grit and AS5. Temps seem to be about 41 C and I really haven't seen it go above 48 C under load. Does that seem right on stock cooling? 3 80 mm input and 2 80 mm output fans in the rear, plus my fans from the powersupply.
 
Ok, new update.

Up to 200 fsb stable. I'm thinking that my multiplyer is locked because I get odd lockups when I try to drop it to 11 and test.

205 so far has crashed in 3dMark 01 twice with upping my cpu voltage to 1.7 and ram to 2.7 and running ram at 3-5-5-12.

Think 200 stable is all I'm gonna get outta it till my new ram gets here.
 
3-5-5-12 :eek: Those timings are looser than......well, I just won't say it but those babies are LOOSE. Damn, I thought my Kingston ValueRAM DDR400 @ 3-3-3-8 was loose lol. But hey, it works and that's all that matters. :D
 
I actually had to lower it down to 195 again and back to the 3-4-4-8 that I was at.

WoW got a memory write error or 2 so I don't think it's quite stable. 195 works just fine though.
 
Hmmm, interesting.

I got my OCZ memory and installed it. Had some issues getting it to boot into windows at 200 mhz bus. It's finally up and running. Now, I can't seem to open CPU Z to check things out. Gives me one of those Application encountered a problem and needs to close.

I've run through Sandra and am going to run through 3d01-3d05 to see if I get through them alright.

Any input?
 
I'm currently testing 200 mhz FSB with a 5:6 divider and seems stable. I'm starting to wonder if my motherboard is the limiting factor of my overclock. I'm going to keep upping the FSB till I notice problems to verify that it's not the CPU. Could there possibly be a problem with the memery controller or something else on the MB?

<edit> Ok, so my divider is now at 5:4. FSB at 166 and memory at DDR 415 or so. CPU not able to take the 200 fsb?

If not, what would be the best setting for this setup? Keep the memory 1:1 and FSB of 195 or should I set the memory divider as high as I can...DDR 433 or even DDR 450 if it can handle it? </edit>
