OK, so i've got my q6600 up to 3.6 totally stable. I also have 2 sticks of crucial ballistix 8500 ram at 1 gig each. The manufacturer specs are 2.2v, 1066mhz, 5-5-5-12, which is what they are now. However, these are rated as "performance" memory, and I'd like to squeeze out some extra goodness. I do not know, though, if it would be better at this point to get lower timings or higher frequency. As far as I know, my system is stable at 1066mhz and 4-4-4-12 timings, but I could probably push these up to about 1200mhz or more.

I am doing all this on a maximus formula mobo, and the available ram frequencies depend on the fsb strab. When the strap is set to 400mhz, more ratios are available, and as the strap gets lower, less are available. I also heard that keeping the strap as low as possible is best, so if I want to increase the frequency of the ram rather than lowering timings, my strap might have to stay high.

Does anyone with a similar set-up know what would be best? I figure the easiest way to find out would be to find the max stable point in both scenarios and then do some benching to find the best performance, but I'd like to know in advance if possible. Thanks!

I think you have to step by step pushing fsb to find down the best performance of your system for both cpu and ram ...
Here some my results pics , you can consider ...

you must be running watercooling with those temps. i'm running 3.8 right now and the lowest stable vcore i got is 1.424 (in cpu-z, i think it's 1.45 in bios). what are you pll, nb, and fsbtermination voltages at 4 ghz?

Yes , I used WC , system set up as Pll : 1.8v , NB : 1.73v , FSB : 1.60v with yellow rate
