Memory not being read right

Hey guys,
I am so confused and i was hope the [H] crew could help me with. Okay i just bought and install a Phenom 9850 BE on a Asus crosshair MB with 4Ghz of RAM. The problem is that my OS is only reading 3.75Ghz when it should be reading 4 and Bios is showing 4Ghz installed but only about 3.75 usable. Also i am running XP x64 should it in my mine should handle 4+ gigs. I had 6400+ BE install proir and 4gigs worked fine. Any thought would really help.

Oh one more thing i also bought 4gigs of G.skill PC2 8500 and tried to run as stock timings and can't POST until i drop the divider to DDR2-800. ( not using this RAM at present, still showing a quarter drop in memory)

AMD Phenom 9850 BE
Asus Crosshair MB
2x1gig Crucial Ballistix and 2x1gig Ballistix Tracer; dual channel (present RAM)
8800 ultra SLI
raptor 150gig
1000w PSU
Water cooled

Hi, the fact that Windows is only reporting 3.75gb should not be a big concern. Windows is notorious for mis-reporting available memory. Watch your system as you boot up and notice the amount of installed memory after POST (memory test). You might also download CPU-z and check your installed memory. Be sure you have the latest updates and service pack installed.

Is the 4gb of PC2-8500 a single 4gb kit (2 x 2gb) or 2 x 2gb kits (4 x 1gb)?
 
Thanks for the replay. i have CPU-z and it shows 4gigs installed. so maybe windows is reading it wrong. The only thing i know is that before i updated my bios and install the new Phenom XP x64 was reading the right amount of RAM. Thats why am so confused. Also my old x2 6400+ BE did 1m superPI in 24sec now with this new 9850 BE results are much high, like 30ish. Not sure if that should be right.

As for my 4gigs of PC2-8500 its 4 x 1gb.

im starting to think it has something to do with the ASUS bios i update too?
 
32 bit can read up to 3.75 max 3.8 if your lucky
64 bit reads up to watever ( i don tknow the max)

have you tried to set your timing and speeds manually?
maybe a bios update would fix it if not so keep us updated
 
From what I can gather, the Crosshair boards, being a 2 year old design are not the best platform for the Phenom. A while back there were performance issues and I am not sure if they were resolved. That would explain your poor performance if true.

Do you have memory voltage adjustments in the BIOS? I understand that at one time they were not allowing memory voltage adjustment.

It is common for AMD CPU's to have a tougher time overclocking higher memory loads. Also your memory was sold in 2 x 2gb kits, as PC2-8500. When increasing your memory load to 4 x 1gb, the load on the memory controller is increased and achieving 8500 speeds becomes more difficult.
