Memory Issues with Corsair Dominator (Help Please :))

Hi, I've just bought another 2GB of Corsair Dominator. Both 2GB sets are PC2-8500 C5 memory,

If I put in one set of memory, It's running like this: www.domje.org/cpuz/memory.jpg.

As soon as I put the other set in and turn on my computer, all of my fans & everything go on as usual (running at full for 3 seconds or so then calming down+ booting normally) but they don't stop running at full speed.

my monitors don't do anything at all, my fans just go around and I don't seem to boot at all.

Could somebody help me with this, I have no idea why. I have looked at my memory and the only difference is that on the front of the memory (could be some kind of serial number, or batch number), one of them says 2.10V ver4.1 & the other says 2.20V ver 4.1.

Any ideas people? thanks a lot.

one more thing, My computer sometimes does this anyway, so is there any other hardware that could be a problem?

cheers!

your mobo is fried.
Your MOBO is not fried or it would not boot.

First, list all of your bios settings you have set for memory, CPU, and voltages. Keep in mind that with 4 modules vs 2, you have doubled the electrical load on the NB and will likely need to increase NBv.

I'm using an 650W EZCool Silent SLi pPFC Power Supply- Quite a cheap PSU, but I was on a slight budget, I'll soon be updating to something like a Coolermaster Real Power 700w (Modular)

As for bios settings go I've got 3GB at 887? Mhz (all of the other mobo settings are on AUTO) (I'm on an Asus Maximus Formula SE) so I presume theyre running normal, what settings should I use in the bios (for NBv etc) NOTE: I have tried running 800Mhz but It doesn't boot.

currently, I'm using ( http://domje.org/cpuz/cpu.jpg ) for my CPU
and I also screenied SPD in cpuz (Here: http://domje.org/cpuz/spd.jpg )

As I said before I have looked at my memory and the only difference is that on the front of the memory one of them says 2.10V ver4.1 & the other says 2.20V ver 4.1, could this make them incompatible? Is it something to do with voltage?

thanks again for your help guys, can't wait to get this sorted, then I can start saving for my 9800 GX2 without any worries that things will fuck up :)

You can run 877 but you can't run 800? hrmmm.....

Have you tried running each set by themselves at their rated speed/timing/voltage? If they both run at that speed and timing, chances are the modules are fine, you just need to find a happy setting for all 4 to run at.

Problem would be solved easily if you'd just buy a 4GB kit instead of two 2GB kits.

I am a bit confused by your answer. What do you mean by "As for bios settings go I've got 3GB at 887?"

Keep in mind you need to manually set your RAM voltage to 2.2v. Also, you may need to raise your memory controller (aka NB aka MCH) voltage if it is not stable at the stock setting with 4 modules.

Sorry about the weird reply before, I posted when I was tired after work, what I was saying was that all of the settings in my bios are set to [AUTO] and my memory was at 887Mhz.

I've got it working at the moment, all 4 running at 800Mhz, this would mean that all together, they're running at 1066, correct?

Also, regarding "Problem would be solved easily if you'd just buy a 4GB kit instead of two 2GB kits."

I couldn't afford to buy a 4gig kit at the time, so I got two 2 gig kits (seperately - a month or so apart).

Thanks a lot for your help on this guys! The thread can pretty much be closed now :)

No this is not correct. Your memory is running at DDR800 based on what you have posted.

Since you're already using Corsair memory why not get a Corsair power supply?

Modular: Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX Triple 12V 50A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply 120MM Fan 2X PCI-E

Regular: Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan

In your bios, you need to manually set the memory timings and voltage. Then, in the DRAM frequency section, select the 1066 option. I don't have that board so I can't tell you EXACTLY how to set that into the bios but, it is in the manual.

Use the stock timing and voltage that is stated on your original packaging for your ram and set it in the bios
