The other night I started having an issue with my RAM. I have 4 identical 1GB sticks of RAM. For the last 6 months they worked with no issue. I did a restart on my machine since I hadn't restarted in some time and it was not boot. The power would come on but it was not even POST and BIOS was inaccessible. All I had was a black screen. So I started to trouble shoot and found that when all 4 sticks of RAM were installed this problem would happen. Here is the list of trials I did.
The mobo has 4 RAM slots. 1 and 3 are paired and 2 and 4 are paired.
Slot 1: All sticks work individually
Slot 2: All sticks work individually
Slot 3: All sticks work individually
Slot 4: All sticks work individually
When sticks were paired together in both slots 1 and 3 / 2 and 4 all boots were successful.
When 3 sticks were used all boots were successful no matter what slots were used.
all ram:
Slots 1, 2, 3, 4 all used = no boot
I cycled all my memory in all the combinations I can think of. No matter when RAM slot was left free and no matter what sticks of RAM were used I would boot just find but unable to boot when all 4 are in use.
If anyone else has any ideas I would be grateful. I'm wondering if this is some other issue with my motherboard but I want to try and rule out the RAM first.
