K, as the title says, i play to build a new gaming box. Cost is a factor, so no SLI T.T.

AMD64 3200 s939 (.9nm)
Zalman AlCu cooler (hopeful OC to 2.4-2.6)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum OR A gigabyte K8NS-Ultra for $100 cheaper (im Aussie) The MSI is about 1.5 times as expensive.
X800XT OR a 6800GT Golden Sample from Gainward OR an Evga 6800GT for $100 cheaper (The x800xt is 825, the golden sample is about $785)
1gb Geil Ultra-X memory (Good buy? It's gone up to 561 DDR at anandtech)
ANtec Plus1000AMG case
Tagan 480w PSU with a few (cant remeber specs but its around 30 amps on 12v rail)
120gb WD Sata drive
Liteon DVD combo drive
XP Home
*SB Audigy 2 ZS
*Logitech Z-5300e speakers

Now my question is, what memory should i go for? I cant get OCZ platinum rev 2, but there is a decent selection of corsair, exceot XMS is scarce. If i plan to OC, should i get crappy PC4000 ram, or good PC3200? Suggest away pls
 
I would also love thoughts on his questions as well. Although I'm building an Intel 3.0ghz system.

I'm looking for RAM that will allow me to overclock just as the original poster.

first of all u shouldn't compare the 6800gt to the xt .. if u can afford the xt .. then get it ..

as for ram .. if u want to o/c i would suggest goin for the crucial ballistix or the ocz platinum rev. 2 since .. although i'd tend more towards the ocz because it's known to work with AMD systems which i will be upgrading to next year.
 
really depends on a few factors on the ram, some pc3200 can do 225 which is good but pc3500 can do that normally. the real difference then is the timings, while pc3200 can maybe do 225 the timings will be better allowing for faster access times, pc3500 and pc4000 have higher timings but give a better overclocking of the fsb, which all depends on many factors. not just the ram. If you want to go crazy and overclock really high your gonna need pc4000, watercooling, and a good psu with awesome rails. The benefit will not be worth the cost in my opinion. Stick with pc3200 or pc3500, corsair, mushkin, kingston, and what i use, pmi (its real fancy)
 
Corsair TwinX pro pc-4000 is the same as Geil UItra-X PC-3200

If cost is not a factor for the memory, I went with Geil Ultra Platinum 4400 (ddr550) and I love it. it can be yours for $309 for a gig 2x512mb
 
I'm also lookin into buying memory for my computer and since I play lots of games on it I was lookin for a high performer ... I looked at the benchmarks at anandtech and they recommended both the crucial ballistix and the ocz plat. rev. 2 ...

Are those 2 not that good anymore or are u guys recommending the other rams because of your experiences ?
 
Can sum1 answer my question? Is Geil ULTRA-X better than Corsair TwinnX pro PC-4000?
 
I think the corsair has slower timings, so GEIL is better in my mind, but I might just be sayign that because I have a gig coming my way. In about a month I will be able to tell you how it performs.
 
for ram, get anything with samsung tccd modules in them. pretty much any ddr nowadays that is ddr3200 and runs at cas2-2-2-5-1t is samsung tccd. pdp systems makes it, pmi, corsair, mushkin, kingston and several other smaller vendors. this ram overclocks like a MADMAN in both a64 and intel systems. easily over 250fsb at 2.5-3-3-7.
