memory division on AM2+

AM2 systems have memory division x: cpu clock/x= memory speed.

I'm assuming this is true also for AM2+?
Can I self choose to set the division as I wish?
I have XMS2 6400 2gb CL5 (1gb+1gb)

I'm planning on getting the AM2+ 5000+ 11*2000 cpu.

so the divisions at stock would be this then?
example 2200/6= ram is running 366*2mhz

if I overclock to 2400mhz/6= 400mhz = PC2 6400
is this good way to overclock my cpu?

after that I guess I will also be overclocking the memory aswell as I assume divisor is locked?
I just read online that the divisor is half rounded up, so that means the divisor i 6 then?

does this mean that my ram will propably be the stopping factor in overclocking cpu?
if the ram goes to maximum 230mhz that mean 2760/6=460= PC2 7360 ?

the divisor is not locked.. you can take DDR2 all the way down to DDR2 400.. DDR3 goes all the way to 1066 or 800.. overclocking between 754, 939, am2, am2+ and am3 has not changed.. its all pretty much the same.. you will probably hit a barrier on the motherboard not exceeding a certain FSB before you hit a barrier on the memory..

if you want to find what all the divisors are just go into the bios change the ram from ddr2 800 to ddr2 667 then go into windows look on cpu-z in the memory tab.. that will give you the divisor.. then go back into the bios change it to ddr2 533.. same thing as above then ddr2 400 and there ya have the numbers..

as far as your bottom portion no your completely off on that.. if the ram is running 230mhz that would make it DDR2 460mhz meaning its underclocked by a long shot.. 400mhz would be DDR2 800 (pc-6400) 333mhz would be DDR2 667.. so on and so on.. just depends on the bios.. some show the memory clock as DDR2 clocks or the actual clocks like i just showed..

btw its 11x200 not 11x2000.. the 2000mhz is the HTT(hypertransport) the 200 is the FSB(HT)..

1200+ means it can handle memory overclocked to 1200+ speeds.. but you would need memory that could run 1200+mhz.. ignore what you've read.. when overclocking on an AMD system.. the easiest way is to set the memory to DDR2 400mhz.. overclock your system.. after you have reached the max overclock on your cpu.. check what your memory is at.. if its below DDR2 800 then go back into the bios and raise the memory multiplier til its back at or near ddr2 800.. the second thing with overclocking using the FSB is that you have to keep an eye on the HyperTransport clock.. by default on am2+ its at 10x or 2000mhz.. most boards can handle up to 2400mhz.. but the rule of thumb is to keep it at or near 2000mhz.. to do this you lower the HTT multiplier..

so in short.. overclocking on an AMD system with a locked cpu multiplier:

drop the memory multiplier to DDR2 400mhz(or the lowest option in your bios)
drop the HTT(hypertransport) to 8x(1.6ghz) (this is optional if you dont want to deal with it as you try to find your max overclock) then after you find it raise it til the HT is at or near 2ghz..

once you do those 2 steps the only 2 things you will need to mess with is the FSB and CPU voltage til you find your max overclock.. once you have found it.. go back and raise the memory multiplier til its as close to DDR2 800mhz (bios setting + overclock = DDR2 800) then raise the hypertransport clock as close to 2ghz( HT multiplier + overclock = 2ghz)

also is this the 45nm version of the athlon x2 5000+ or is this the older 65nm brisbane athlon x2 5000+? because it will change the hypertransport settings i suggested above..

the cpu is the AM2+ 45nm which according to various websites has 3200MHz HyperTransport.

Did youre description be for 65nm or 45nm, if you mean that the 45nm should be 2000 on HT, does this mean that the real value on stock is 2*1600mhz?

edit---> I just looked up internet the 65nm has 2ghz HT while the 45nm has 3.2ghz.
This is really wierd if the motherboard indeed only supports uptop 2.4ghz HT

yeah if its saying that the hypertransport clock is 3.2ghz then its 1.6ghz in the bios.. so it does change my information a bit.. you could try lowering the HT to 1400mhz instead of 1600mhz in the bios.. though being that it is at 1600mhz stock i wouldnt bother changing it since it shouldnt have an effect on the overclocking.. you might have to raise the chipset voltage +.10 if its not stable..
